 End the New Jim Crow!

George Zimmerman ignored the dispatcher's instruction to leave Trayvon alone. He then tracked down the 17 year-old kid because he was black. Trayvon was unarmed and just walking home. George accosted the young man and after a scuffle pulled a gun on him. Instead of ending the fight, he decided to shoot the young man, because he knew he could get away with it.

George was not found not guilty of any crime, but a 17 year old kid is dead. He was guilty of walking while black. We are all Trayvon and cannot let this injustice stand. No Justice, No Peace. Time to stand up, March, Speak Out, and Demand Justice.

Petition the Supreme Court to Restore Civil Rights

Reverse the US Supreme Court decision
to set aside
the right to remain silent

In a 5-4 ruling, the justices held that a person no longer has the right to remain silent as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. In relevant part, the Fifth Amendment mandates that no one “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.”

Our Founding Fathers understood how vital the right against self-incrimination was to the pursuit of justice. This protection from self-incrimination has had long and expansive historical development and is the essential mainstay of our adversary system.

The court has time to correct this error. Please do so to preserve the integrity of US jurisprudence. Our Bill of Rights and the US Constitution hang in the balance.

Sign the petiton!
Stand up and fight back!

We need real reform in Portland, Oregon. Our Police Department is out of control.

A Multnomah County jury ruled Monday that the city of Portland must pay a 27-year-old man nearly $306,000 after police used a stun gun and pepper spray on him, punched him and dog-piled on top of him before they unlawfully arrested him for "criminally trespassing on a downtown sidewalk."

The money represents one of the bigger jury awards in recent excessive force cases against police.

Jurors found that police falsely arrested, battered and maliciously prosecuted Gallagher Smith after he quarreled with a doorman on Nov. 13, 2010, at the Aura nightclub on West Burnside Street.

(the above from site)

~If the city council wants to appeal this, they should use their own personal funds instead of our tax money. The police screwed up, again. The reason they screwed up again is because the mayor, chief, and council continue to give them a free pass to break the law. Now that this policy has cost citizens millions of dollars, perhaps the council should revisit this issue or they may be subject to the same federal investigation which has determined that our police department is out of control.

The murders of Aaron Campbell, Keaton Otis, and James Chasse, Jr. have never been resolved. None of the officers who broke the law and violated Police Department Procedures have been charged, tried,or prosecuted for these crimes.

We, the citizens of Portland, Oregon have paid millions for crimes committed by PDX police officers, the officers have not been disciplined or prosecuted. They continue to serve in spite of their illegal, arrogant, and abusive criminal behavior.

The shootings of James Jahar Perez and Kendra James may have been forgotten by some, but we have yet to see accountability or justice. This must change.

And now the council wants to second-guess our judicial system when they find our out of control Police Bureau at fault in roughing up and arresting Mr. Smith for no good reason. We have a right to walk down the sidewalk without being assaulted by the officers we pay to protect us.

We deserve an explanation from our council and some discipline and more responsible leadership in our Police Bureau. And if not, we need to know why.

in solidarity and with best regards,
Tim Flanagan

  • Anywhere EXCEPT your place of employment!

  • ONE DAY can change reality! Here's how....

Too often strikes are considered only in terms of mass action. Perhaps the time has come to envision a change of reality in terms of personal empowerment. Intention is everything, and this call-out is not about convincing others to change the world, it is instead to lead by example...even if no one follows. It is not about attending an event, it is about staking a claim for a different way of life.

If you do not like this idea, or this is something that deeply offends you...then don't 'like' it and don't do it.

Top 5 things to do on a personal strike:

1.) Spend time with your family or friends
2.) Go outside and get away from it all, reconnect
         with nature
3.) Do something for someone else, lend a
         helping hand
4.) Build community, talk to neighbors
5.) Attend a May Day event or action!
