Friday, November 7Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 236Jose Luis Solís López,
a teacher in the Zapatista’s “Little School” (La Escuelita) was targeted and murdered, and at least 15 Zapatistas seriously injured during an ambush on Friday, May 2, 2014.

The same attackers damaged or destroyed both the autonomous Mayan school and the local health clinic at the Zapatista caracol of La Realidad. We are hosting a solidarity event and fundraiser to support the Zapatista community and to help rebuild the Zapatista Escuelita.

Please join us Friday, November 7th at 4 pm for a panel discussion, and solidarity mural painting event to support this vital community resource and to support Indigenous resistance movements and to help raise funds to rebuild the Zapatista Escuelita. Our guest panelists are Felipe Ferreira, Tabitha Milian, Chris Rodriguez and Rose Harriot, all have spent time in
Chiapas and will be sharing stories of their time at the Zapatista Escuelita.
We will be working on a community solidarity mural.
Special musical guests will be “Son Clandestino.”

PORTLAND, Ore. – Occupy Portland is back. The group is setting up camp again across from the Justice Center and promising to fill Chapman Park. People are gathering at the Justice Center to protest repression, war, injustice, poverty, joblessness, homelessness and inequity. They also stand in support of basic civil rights and against police brutality. This reoccupation is part of a Worldwide Wave of Action that started Friday with former Occupy sites in 10 cities across the nation.

The worse our situation gets—economically, politically, ecologically—the more we yearn for a vast movement to erupt and transform the landscape. ,,, It will take large-scale bravery to reverse the giant mess capitalism has made of everything—massive inequality, our unions sliding to near-extinction, our planet on the verge of eco-catastrophe.

That’s why, in the long term, a movement with a troublemaking spirit—the kind that inspires people to bravery—is the only kind with a chance to win. These ideas, struggles, and more will all be up for discussion at the Labor Notes Conference next weekend in Chicago. George Zimmerman ignored the dispatcher's instruction to leave Trayvon alone. He then tracked down the 17 year-old kid because he was black. Trayvon was unarmed and just walking home. George accosted the young man and after a scuffle pulled a gun on him. Instead of ending the fight, he decided to shoot the young man, because he knew he could get away with it.

George was not found not guilty of any crime, but a 17 year old kid is dead. He was guilty of walking while black. We are all Trayvon and cannot let this injustice stand. No Justice, No Peace. Time to stand up, March, Speak Out, and Demand Justice.

Petition the Supreme Court to Restore Civil Rights

Reverse the US Supreme Court decision
to set aside the right to remain silent

In a 5-4 ruling, the justices held that a person no longer has the right to remain silent as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. In relevant part, the Fifth Amendment mandates that no one “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.”

Our Founding Fathers understood how vital the right against self-incrimination was to the pursuit of justice. This protection from self-incrimination has had long and expansive historical development and is the essential mainstay of our adversary system.

The court has time to correct this error. Please do so to preserve the integrity of US jurisprudence. Our Bill of Rights and the US Constitution hang in the balance.
